Dr. Roshni Echharam

B. Optom, O.D

Originally from Durban, South Africa Dr. Roshni Echharam has lived and worked in the Toronto area since 2003. Dr. Echharam completed her Bachelors in Optometry at the University of Durban Westville in 1996. She then lived and worked in Zimbabwe for 2 years where she was exposed to many different diseases of the eye and visual system. Whilst living and working in Africa her interest in the treatment and management of eye diseases grew and so she decided to move to the United States to pursue further studies in this area.

She was one of 8 students accepted in the Advanced Standing International Program at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in May 2000. She graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D) with honors in 2002. Upon graduation Dr. Echharam worked in Chicago, IL for a year.

Since moving to Toronto in September 2003, Dr. Echharam has worked with many reputable practitioners in the city. She has been an associate at North York eye associates for the past 8 years and has co-managed glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and cataract surgeries with both Dr. Herb Tanzer and Dr. Raj Rathee. More recently, Dr. Echharam was an associate at the Yorkville Eye Clinic. Here she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Barbara Caffery treating and managing patients with dry eye disease related to Sjogren’s syndrome.

Dr. Echharam is an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO), where she is a committee member on the Remuneration Working Group. She is also a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

When she’s not doing comprehensive eye exams, Dr. Echharam enjoys spending time with her 4 year old daughter, Nikhita. She also enjoys cooking, classical music and the theatre. Her husband and herself share a love for food and travel, so they try to experiment with new flavours and visit new cultures whenever the opportunity presents itself.
